How Hailey Baldwin & Justin Bieber Reunited After Being 'Hurt Really Bad’

During the most recent episode of Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin's Facebook Watch series,The Biebers on Watch, the happily married couple reminisced about their early romance, including their breakup back in 2016.

"It was weird because we had been apart for so long," Hailey said about their reconciliation two years ago. "I was so cautious about the two of us because I think both of us had been hurt really bad by each other before.”

Their romantic reunion didn't happen over night either, even though their courtship seemed to happen super fast at the time. “Instead of it being this big fireworks, sparks flying moment, I was super, super nervous and unsure," she continued. "It took me time to not feel weird about it.”

In an earlier episode, Hailey touched on this subject, as well, sharing that she took the necessary time to heal after their bad split. “I didn’t search for somebody to take your place and take another relationship or fill a void in that way. I really let myself feel the emotions I was feeling. It feels like grieving, it is grieving actually,” she explained. “You feel like you lose someone you really, really love and care about. I just remember I cared about you so much that I was like, ‘It doesn’t even matter to me if he’s in my life, in like, a romantic way. I just care about him so much that I want us to be in each other’s lives and that be okay.’”

Bieber chimed in during the latest episode, too, saying that he continued to work on the fall out from their breakup even after they got married. “There’s a lot of things I need to work on. Forgiveness things, jealousy things, insecurities that I didn’t even realize I had until I chose to spend my life with you,” he explained. “[I] realized there were blind spots in my life that I didn’t realize I had. That was really hard, to work through those things, but I think when you choose to work through those things, I feel like now that I’ve worked through that stuff, you and I are closer than ever.”

The couple also spoke about some happy memories from the early days of their relationship, as well, like their first date grabbing sushi and the story behind their first kiss. “The first time we kissed, we were in New York and we had gone to dinner together,” Hailey shared with viewers. “We were just hanging and we went back to watch a movie and we kissed.”

The pair went on their first date in secret because Hailey's parents thought she was too young go out with Justin on her own at the time. “He asked me to go get sushi with him and I called my parents to ask them if I could go and they said no. They were like ‘Absolutely not, you’re not going to hang out with Justin by yourself, that’s not happening,’” she explained.

Like any other teenager, though, Hailey found a way to meet up with Justin. “My older sister kind of covered for me and was like, ‘Oh yeah, she’s gonna sleep over at my apartment and it’s all good,’” Hailey continued. “She covered for me and we went to dinner and didn’t get caught.”

Hailey and Justin also reminisced about the moments they realized they loved each other. “I remember the first time you said you were in love with me, but I don't remember when I was like, ‘Oh yeah he’s the one for sure,’” Hailey recalled. “I also think that I was really stubborn. I would never admit to his face that I was in love with him until it was obvious.”

For Justin, however, there wasn't one particular aha moment for him. “I think just time, being around each other… I just started realizing more and more qualities I liked about you and more things that were just so endearing," he shared.
