A Spice Girls Animated Movie Is In The Works

The Spice Girls IN NYC

The Spice Girls are all — yes, all — coming together on an animated movie!

Girl group members — Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Melanie Brown (Scary), Geri Halliwell (Ginger) and Victoria Beckham (Posh) — have all signed on to bring an animated feature to fruition with Paramount Animation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The outlet broke the news Wednesday (June 12), reporting that the project, led by the studio's president, Mireille Soria, is expected to receive a 2020 release date.

Per the report, the animated feature, already in its early stages of development, will feature the English pop group's timeless '90s tunes and new songs as well. Soria confirmed the Spice Girls "had an idea that we've been developing," and all the girls are "very involved" in the project being produced by former manager Simon Fuller and screen written by Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith.

The untitled upcoming feature is the Spice Girls' first major movie since their musical comedy Spice World released in 1997. The film, which followed the gals coping with fame and friendships, became a cult classic among fans and in British pop culture.

The film news comes days before the Horner, Bunton, Chisholm, and Brown finish their reunion tour in London this Saturday (June 15) after performing 13 shows, all of which without Beckham who, despite her absence, wished her girlfriends "good luck" ahead of their first concert in Dublin last month.
